Kinja'd!!!3 Kinja'd!!! 19

So last Tuesday I mentioned !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! One of these had been used by some asshole to travel into Delaware. At the time, the representative told me they’d be put down as lost and that new ones would be sent out. Inconvenient, but whatever. On Thursday, I notice that these three stolen tags are still marked as “active.” I call, the new representative tell me the same thing. Whatever.

Sunday, I look at my account, all three tags are still active, and this fuckweed has gone through the same Delaware tolls three more times.

So I call this morning. Thankfully, this CS rep was much more combative, which I appreciate, since the last two were incredibly nice, but evidently didn’t do shit.

“You only received one?”

“Yes.”

“No you received two. They ship together.”

“I received one is a sealed package.”

“No way. I need to speak to my supervisor.”

Comes back.

“We’re going to mark these three as stolen and each one is going to have a $9 charge on your account.”

“Can I speak to your supervisor?”

“Apparently the last representative you spoke to must have told you about the charge for the lost transponders and you didn’t want to pay it.”

At this point I start laughing while I’m on my account page switching the associated credit card to my Amex card (i.e., “let’s see you fucking try and get that charge to clear.”).

“Can I speak to your supervisor?”

“Let me finish explaining first.”

“No, I don’t think you understand. I realize that there’s only so much you can do, and I don’t want to be rude to you, but I’m going to need to speak to your supervisor so I can be very rude. Okay?”

“I’ll transfer you now.”

So I speak to the supervisor. Within two minutes: 1) The three lost tags are cancelled (verifiably on my account online). 2) New ones are sent out. 3) My account is refunded the deposit on the tags. 4) I’m assured that the tolls will be refunding in 5 business days.

Lesson learned:

Do not ever bother with speaking to anyone but a supervisor at EZ Pass. Also, now I kind of wonder, since “they send the transponders together” if they weren’t actually stolen by someone working at EZ Pass.

Its amazing what happens when you get a supervisor or even better the supervisor’s supervisor. All of a sudden, the shit that cant be done can suddenly be done.

And there are photos made of every car that crosses the bridge, so they know what car Mr. Fuckweed is driving, in case they want to do anything about it. And this EZ Pass thing is an enormous privacy invasion when you apply for one. I’m happy I don’t have a commute — my job is four miles from my house — let alone have to cross a body of water each day. This is a good example, albeit perhaps a small one, of how our great nation is going to Hell in a hand basket.

And nice work managing the phone slaves. I never get rude, nor even earnest. I kill them with kindness.

Possibly, but they could have also been nabbed by a carrier or as they sat on your porch. A friend of mine worked the graveyard shift next door to a UPS sorting facility. He witnessed a UPS sorter carry packages out to the fence and toss them over.

It’s amazing, isn’t it? In five minutes we went from “there’s an investigation pending” to “these have been deactivated and you’ve been refunded.”

if they weren’t actually stolen by someone working at EZ Pass

I would suspect a parcel carrier first. They have access to boxes, tape, etc, and know where it’s coming from.

Either way, if they care to pursue it, they have photos of the car(s) using the transponder.

I had to use my polite/stern voice with weekend with Sprint, and ask the rep to stop talking and transfer me to her boss/supervisor because I had reached the point of no return.

On hold for an hour.

My concern was I could not log into the website, and using my username/phone#/email to reset my PW resulted in a “There is no account affiliated with this ID”

She explained to me how to request a new PW on the site.

Every time, I interupted her and explained that it was impossible.

After the fourth time, “The next thing out of my mouth will not be nice. Please transfer me before it comes out” came out

She transferred me to the main menu of the call center. Time to start over.

I ended up getting helped via Twitter direct message. I figured I would get better help via the telephone since I was calling a service center that supports PHONES.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

This...I need to remember this.

I had a two week fight with AT&T last month because someone called in to change their plan and the employee pulled up the wrong phone number and changed mine instead. At one point, to solve the problem, they simply shut off data and texting but then apparently texted me a link to their app.

Eep.

The only reason I don’t think they were stolen after being delivered to my house is why would you leave one transponder and take the other three? I mean, the fact that I only received one was why I was watching my account like a hawk anyway.

For that matter, why the hell would anyone commit a federal crime to avoid paying a $4 toll a few times?

I spent 30 minutes on the Ben Franklin Bridge this morning. It wasn’t even rush hour. You’re very lucky indeed.

It’s my go to way of getting a supervisor quickly. Being rude to a bottom rung CS rep never gets anything solved (although this one would have really deserved it), but I find that telling them that you need to scream at someone and that you’d like it to be their boss really works.

Well, that’s the thing. If this “two trasponders” thing wasn’t bullshit (which I’m nearly 100% positive that it was), then whoever took the second one took it from a sealed aluminum bag and resealed it. When I received it, the only way to open it was to tear the bag open.

That said, I’m sure she was being a jerk off and that they just send these things in separate bags.

I sometimes feel sorry for people working in understaffed call centers. No matter what the customer’s issue is, being stuck on hold for 30+ minutes at a time is going to be a bad time.

It turns out I could not reset/request a PW becaues my account hadn’t been created yet. Makes sense, except for the fact that I have used that login before to transfer service between devices.

Still not sure if I’m back on the “(sigh) mail this old person his paper statement” list yet :)

Oh, they were saying there would be two in the blocking bag? Yeah, that seems like BS. I would expect 1 box, two bags.

Lots of people do lots of crazy things to avoid tolls.

There are even products designed to hide your license plate so that it isn’t photographed at car meets. Who knows what else it could be used for?

A friend uses “You don’t get paid enough to deal with the sort of problem customer I am about to be. Please transfer me to your supervisor.” to do the same thing. Says they never have to repeat it more than twice to get to a supervisor.

I like your way of dealing with this. I’m going to have to remember that line about being rude to their supervisor.

Also, EZPass can piss up a rope. I had one for quite a long time when I lived in CT and traveled back and forth to MD. Then I transferred and stopped using so it lived in the glove box. It got bounced from car to car, and now I find myself in NoVA and using the Dulles Toll Road occasionally, so I figured I could make my life easy and start using EZPass again.

So I go online to throw some money at it turn it back on, and my account is locked. I call and they tell me that my account has been in locked because of “hundreds of dollars of unpaid tolls.” I explain that I haven’t used the account in years, so that’s not possible. She tells me it doesn’t matter, they sent it to a collection agency a while ago. This makes me slightly nervous, I’d like to clear this up as I’m planning to buy a house soon and don’t want any black marks on my credit. So I do what would appear to be the dumbest thing imaginable - I call the collection agency. No one answers. I call several times, no answers, and then for good measure I e-mail them. No one has ever called or e-mailed me back.

So I went to Giant Grocery Store (because VA is smart and lets you buy EZ Passes at convenient places vs. having to stop at a toll facility on a busy highway, or have it mailed) and pick up a new EZPass and go about my merry way.

I worked overnight in a DirecTV call center back in ~99 right after they bought a ton of the other small dish providers (Pegasus, PrimeStar, and so on). More than 10X-ed the number of customers all of which required new equipment...but didn’t staff up the call center. New service was prioritized over existing customers in the queue. Woe be those who had a billing problem or just wanted to order a PPV or whatever. Average time on hold to the first rep hovered around 90 minutes...hope you don’t need to be transferred.

Don’t remember how many people threatened to kill me but it was in more than double digits nightly. Good times.
